HAND-PAINTED AND PRINTED IMAGERY ON GLASS
w/ Armelle LeRoux
 
Learn the classical techniques of painting on glass with renowned conservationist Armelle LeRoux. Having worked for years restoring architectural glass of all types and periods, LeRoux will lead you through the journey of classical hand-painting techniques. Then, learn to mix special glass paints for applying a printed image onto the surface of the glass through a silk-screening process. Lastly, students will learn how to fire their works to permanently set the images into the glass panels they have created. Students will be enabled to take classical processes learned here and apply them to contemporary vision and direction, thus rendering their own inspired works in the luminosity of glass.

Calling all cold and warm-glass artists: Learn advanced stained glass cutting techniques from master artist and restorer LeRoux, and look at glass in whole new way. LeRoux will take you through glass cutting, design and contruction with a slant that will open your eyes to new possibilities in this age-old medium, while providing new relevance to warm glass techniques. From concept to completion, whether already competant in stained or fused glass methods, or exploring for the first time, each step will provide the student with an inspired approach. If you are a warm glass artist, LeRoux's methods will open up new pathways for your warm glass expressions.

SURFACE RESURFACE

Once you have a cast sculpture or flat-fused work in glass, how do you clean the work and finish the surface to the desired effect? Do you want to create a polish or a matte finish? Do you want to further manipulate the work with carving, texture or patina? Bring your latest work to this workshop and find out how the right tools and techniques can take your work to the next level. Work with the Foredom Flexshaft, sandblaster, flat lap, belt sander and more. Explore adhesives and patina. Leave class with a small studio kit to provide you with some basic finishing accessories and the ability to access the TIGA cold-working studio with minimum assistance through the TIGA COMMUNITY ACCESS STUDIO.

Change your perspective on how you approach kiln-casting and open up a new world! Expand your options by learning how to decrease kiln time and manageability of large castings as well as to control color gradations and transitions between thick and thin forms. Explore how to best design objects prior to casting via segmentation, re-assembly choices, and presentation issues through the incorporation of metal parts and the use of adhesives. A seed project will be introduced from which students may individually design a small, several part sculpture suited to their particular interests.

MULTI-PART MOLD-MAKING FOR KILN CASTING
w/ Anna Boothe
 
Learn Why, How, and When to make multi-part refractory molds for your sculptural hollow and solid kiln castings. Allow yourself more freedom to explore forms directly in clay or plasticene without the necessity of transporting a positive into wax, while providing yourself with access to the interior of your molds and better control of glass packing as a result. Students will be guided in the making of a sample palette on the first day that will be used to inform the two small projects to be executed during the course of the workshop.

LOST-WAX CLOSED-MOLD CASTING IN GLASS
w/ Delinda VanneBrightyn
 
Cast your sculpture in glass utilizing the ancient technique of lost wax combined with current technologies of glass and modern-day refractories. You will learn how to make a layered refractory mold, venting techniques for successful casting, and calculating amounts of glass needed to fill a closed refractory mold. Students will have hands on experience in all aspects, including wax sculpting, making and drying the mold to ready it for casting, wax melt-out, and proper preparation of the glass for casting. Discussions in understanding different types of refractory materials, how the glass fills the mold, combining and designing color within the work, and determining firing schedules will be forefront in this workshop.

The One-On-One Welding Experience
w/ Jack Hill
 
Jack Hill, an accomplished welder and metal-smith with 40 years of experience in all phases of welding, is offering a one-on-one tig welding class by appointment to fit with your schedule. Learn how to form and fab metal for mounting your art glass. Not a glass artist? Then come learn the basics of welding and get on your way to welding together your sculpting and fabricating dreams. Jack's accreditations include: ASME - American Society of Mechanical Engineers Accreditation and 17 Certifications with AWS - American Welding Society, which range from mild steel to titanium. Also a sculptor working in metal, stone, and glass, Jack won best of show at Breckenridge, CO's Scultpure on the Blue. Hill has exhibited his works at Robert Mangold's Art Yard in Denver, The Steam Plant Sculpture Garden in Salida, CO, and was featured artist at the Foothills Fine Art Festival in Golden, CO.
